Where indigenous roots meet boundless sound
INDWE is a South African artist whose work lives between worlds – rooted in the spiritual memory of indigenous sound and reaching into expansive, genre defying forms of afro-Jazz, experimental and cinematic music. As a vocalist, composer, and cultural producer, she creates powerful, immersive sonic experiences that draw from ancestral knowledge, deep listening, and a dynamic relationship with land and story.
From the Eastern Cape to international stages, INDWE’s music serves as both ritual and resistance – a call to remember, to feel and transcend. Her debut album “Indwe” introduced a bold voice steeped in authenticity and creative risk. INDWE’s forthcoming albums – NguNina, a deeply intimate exploration of matriarchal power and YinYanga’: Umculo Lucwangco a bold ensemble work rooted in indigenous instrumentation and AfroJazz expression – together mark a new chapter in her sonic journey bridging ancestral memory, spiritual depth, and genre-defying innovation.
INDWE has collaborated with world-renowned musicians, including Omar Sosa and Paolo Fresu. She is featured on the upcoming Badzimo album with their co-composed track Boat in the Ocean , and was a celebrated contributor to the international FOOD project. Her boundary pushing Cave Sessions – a live recording set in a sacred coastal cave between South Africa and Namibia – has garnered praise for its innovation, spiritual intensity, and cinematic quality.
With multiple award nominations under her belt and performances that span festivals, sacred spaces, film installations, and jazz stages, INDWE’s work continues to resonate with diverse audiences. She is founder of INDWE Music, a publishing imprint dedicated to artist empowerment and cultural sustainability.
INDWE’s artistry is a prayer, a pulse, a portal — reminding us that sound begins with silence, and music begins with listening. Through every note, she affirms the power of music to revive spirit, tell untold stories, and shape a future rooted in truth, beauty, and connection.
